The Forgotten Custom ( Triumph )
Mr. Martini Shakes and Stirs A Recent Triumph Classic
The
Thunderbird and Legend TT models from the 1990s were hugely important
for Triumph, as they represented the gap between the classic Triumphs of
the 60s and 70s and the reborn Bonneville and Thunderbird models of the
new millennium. But as good as these three-cylindered beauties were,
they didn’t get the custom love that today’s Bonnevilles seem to garner.
Good thing no one told that to Italian custom builder Nikola Martini.
No stranger to reimagining Triumphs, Martini’s shop built a Legend
TT-based café racer that proves modern custom Triumphs needn’t be
limited to Hinckley-era Bonnevilles, Thruxtons and Scramblers.
Going for modern performance with classic
café styling, Mr. Martini added Showa upside down forks as well as
modern sportbike-spec brakes, rims and tires to the TT. The use of a
Zard 3-into-1 exhaust system and clip-on handlebars ups the bike’s
sporting credentials even further. The custom-made subframe and saddle
are styling staples for any café racer, and they reduce the bike’s
weight dramatically for better power-to-weight ratio. Simple black paint
finishes off this modern take on a classic café recipe.
